Cheltenham and the Cotswolds host many good quality Car Boot Sales and Antique Fairs  throughout the year on a regular basis two of the largest car boot sales and markets are held at Cheltenham Racecourse car boot sale and Market and at Gloucester's at the newly built Hampstead Meadows. As budgets are tight more and more people are looking into both selling unwanted or unused items in order to bring a boost to their income, and also to buy second hand items at a greatly reduced price in order to keep spending down, others are turning buying and selling of second hand items into a profession as they realise how moch money can be made buying and selling, although this does not come without the risk of loosing out on some occassions and there is no guarentee that items will sell! If you are looking to buy an item second hand but do not want to visit a car boot sale you may wish to see if you can find what you are looking for in Activ Cheltenham's classified section,

Cheltenham Car Boot Sale Sellers: Generally pitches can cost  from £5 for a car, around £10 for a medium size van, up to over £20 for a large van market trader. On average a pitch costs around £10 per car for private sellers for an outdoor car boot sale,  many you can just turn up, No need to book.

 Sellers Tips

·     In general, if you want the best pitch at the front of the event where the buyers enter, then it is advisable to get there early before the gates open to sellers.

·     Make sure you bring a big enough table, or some old camping groundsheets, and lay your items out so they are easily to see, not stuffed in box and inaccessible where potential customers will have to rumage through.

·     Take plenty of float, notes and coins, with you. You might be surprised at just how money you could you make out of your old clutter!

·     Carrier bags are always a good idea to give to your customers something to carry their purchases in.

·     Set a price in your mind you would be happy to sell your items at, but always be prepared to go lower to make a sale.

·     Think about purchasing a wholesale job lot of items and selling them on your stall.

Cheltenham Car Boot Sale Buyers: If you want to make sure you get the best quality items, in general it is better to get there as early as possible. Some car boot sales make an admission charge.

Buyer Tips

·     Never pay the asking price, and always be prepared to haggle! Most sellers are keen to get rid of what they have brought and don't want to take it home again.

·     If you are not an experienced ‘car-boot seller', always have a good look round first. Something you see on the first stall, might just be a lot cheaper on the last stall you look at.

·     If you are still at the sale near the end and you something catches your eye, try making a silly offer. Sellers can get desperate towards the end, as mentioned above, and don't really want to load up the car again and take it back home again, they would rather go home with more cah in their pockets than be taking home goods they brought to sell. 

If you are a seller at a Cheltenham and Gloucestershire Car Boot Sale, it is worth doing a little bit of research if you think you might have  Antiques or something of value to find out their real value. Always beware that some buyers probably know a lot more than you, so make sure you don't give away anything too cheaply as the Cheltenham collectors will be on the lookout. Until you become more experienced, it is probably advised to stick to items in the following categories which always sell well.
