Cheltenham College is an outstanding fee paying independent co-educational school in Cheltenham with an international reputation for excellence. The prominent building with its grand entrance on the A46 is a distinct marker to the architectural style of many of the regency buildings in Cheltenham, with a large sports and cricket field to the rear, it is suitated close to Cheltenham general Hospital and within walking distance to the town of Cheltenham.

There are in the order of 600 pupils at the college in Cheltenham, with the majority being boarders. To ensure admission access is not just for the privileged approximately 50 of the pupils attending are supplied with bursaries. Pupils are organised into ten houses which allows a cohesive and competitive spirit. Southwood is the Day House for boys with male boarders allocated to Newick, Leconfield, Christowe, Hazelwell or Boyne House which is the oldest boarding house. The first Girl house was opened in 1981, although there were already a few girls at the College making the Sixth Form the first co-educational part of the College. Girl day pupils are allocated to either Westal or Queens and those who board to either Ashmead or Chandos
Following the early success of the college a Junior Department for Boys was established in 1865; however it was not until 1993 that the now Cheltenham College Junior School (as opposed to department) allowed girl pupils. In the same year Kingfishers catering for children aged 3 years to 7 years was established so creating the option of a seamless education from age 3 to 18 years. Cheltenham College junior School is a co-educational independant school, it is also a prep school.
Kingfishers which accept children from the age of 3 have enviable children to teacher ratio of one teacher to eight children, ensuring a fantastic learning where the needs of the individual can be taken into account. The junior school has been rated as outstanding by OFSTED; where again the emphasis is on a happy learning environment giving a rounded education. To help this Cheltenham College Junior School ensures a wide range of extra -curricular activities catering for every interest. Many of these are based around the extensive school facilities such as music, drams, sports, art and IT, but there are also third party facilities used such as those at the Cotswold water park for sailing.
Cheltenham Ladies‘ College
Cheltenham Ladies‘ College is a mainstream independent school for girls, catering for pupils aged 11 – 18, based around a magnificent Victorian campus. The majority of pupils are day pupils but there is significant number of boarders. This facility is available up to and including Sixth Form pupils.
Cheltenham Ladies’ College was founded in 1841. In 1858 Dorothea Beale became the new Head Teacher. The school soon developed a reputation for excellence, becoming one of the most highly regarded schools in the country.
Academic Scholarships are awarded annually the College makes about 20 awards each year to 11+, 12+, 13+ and 16+ applicants.
Academically the school is extremely strong in all subjects with Ofsted describing the school as exceptional.
Cheltenham Ladies‘ College is also renowned for its excellent facilities including extensive sports facilities, music and library facilities, with teams and activities of a very wide variety. The Cheltenham Ladies’ College was recently featured on a television documentary following the transition to secondary school of 4 age 11 young ladies from different parts of the Uk. 3 pupils were starting as boarders and 1 pupil as a day pupil, the documentary gave a rare insight into Cheltenham Ladiies’ College, daily life and boarding accommodation of the so called ‘green flies’ (the young ladies in their green uniforms), who walk to the Ladies College each day in pairs for safety. Cheltenham Ladies' College attracts many celebraties children including Madonna's daughter who has been a past pupil at Cheltenham Ladies' College.
