Cheltenham Gloucester

Why not visit the historic town of Gloucester while staying in Cheltenham. There are a number of key attraction including Gloucester cathedral and the new Gloucester Quays Designer outlet.

Gloucester Quays new Designer outlet which was opened in April 2009 by Gok Wan. The outlet forms part of the £400 million redevelopment of the picturesque quays area. When finished the complete development will include a four star hotel, supermarket and numerous bars and restaurants. With entertainment from a multiplex cinema and approximately 1000 homes the area will become a vibrant environment for living, working and leisure. There will also be a new campus for Gloucestershire university (formerly Gloscat).

 

Worship has taken place in Gloucester cathedral for approximately 900 years. Although a great place of Christian worship part of the historic building has also been utilised as a film set. The cloisters became part of Hogwart’s school in the film versions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s  Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. During filming strict security ensured that none of the magic of surprise was lost to the visitors and press that had assembled hoping to get a glimpse of the filming.
 

Another key attraction is the famous Gloucester Folk Museum. Located in a Tudor timber frame building near the Cathedral, the building dates from the 16th and 17th century. The museum includes a dairy, carpenters workshop and wheelwrights and is a fantastic attraction for all ages whatever the weather and entry is FREE!.
