Science Festival – Gifted and Talented Day

 

Cheltenham Ladies’ College will continue with its commitment to highlight the important role of women in the field of Science by hosting a Science day for Year 8 and 9 girls from across the county of Gloucestershire.   

 

Ro Kaye, Community Links Co-ordinator and Physics Teacher at Cheltenham Ladies’ College arranged the morning of activities in conjunction with the Cheltenham Science Festival.  42 Year 8 and 9 girls will participate in a series of hands-on activities which encourage aspiration, creativity and innovation.  Girls will work closely with mentors, all of whom are women who have gone on to study Science at university and now have careers using their scientific knowledge.  One challenge for the girls will be to work in teams to design and build a glider.  The gliders will be launched in the Princess Hall  Cheltenham using a parcel launcher. 

 

Ro Kaye said, “This will be a wonderful opportunity for local girls from different parts of Cheltenham and Gloucestershire to develop a better understanding of the wide range of careers available to girls interested in Science and to enable them to opt for Science subjects with more enthusiasm and aspiration.”

  • Visiting mentors from Sigma Aldrich, Messier Dowty, L’Oreal, GE Aviation, British Energy and Oxford University
