Pate's  Grammar school in Cheltenham is a Academy Status grammar school for both boys and girls.  There are No paying fees and any child can apply to enter Pate's School, you do not have to live within a catchment area. Pupils  join Pate's School in either Year 7 or in the 6th Form. Pate's Grammar school was founded in 1578 by Richard Pate  as a boys grammar school, and was originally located in  the High Street in Cheltenham.

Year 7: There are 120 places available each year. Admission is competitive and the Entrance Examination is held at Pate's in Cheltenham in October for entry the following September.

Pate's Grammar School has been ranked second out of state secondary schools in the area in the national newspaper's Parent Power table.

Pate's Grammar School and Cheltenham Ladies' College  have been ranked top of the class, and have been named the top independent secondary school in the South West by The Sunday Times.

Pate's Grammar School has also been ranked second out of state secondary schools in the area in the national newspaper's Parent Power table.

Exam results for 2010 were are the best results  ever and secured Pate'splace firmly within the top ten schools nationally and top in Gloucestershire.

Pate's Grammar School is also rated as Grade 1 'outstanding' in the latest Ofsted report in 2009 and was recently one of the first schools in Cheltenham and Gloucestershire to convert to academy status.
