Bourton-on-the-Water

 

Known as the Venice of the Cotswolds, on the River Wind rush, with picturesque Cotswold stone buildings many of which are over 300 years old some date back to Elizabethan times. There are many pubs with Hotel accommodation and excellent food; there are many coffee shops and individual shops to stroll around. In the centre of the village there is also the car museum with many well known cars of the past. Birdland is also located in the centre, and is popular with children.

 

Nearby is the recently opened leisure centre, with swimming pool, and general leisure facilities.

Bibury

 

Considered by William Morris to be the most beautiful Cotswold Village set on the River Coln. The weaver’s cottages known as Arlington Row are visited worldwide with Rack Isle opposite. The historic Mill now houses a coffee shop museum and gift shop. The Swan Hotel and Trout Farm by the bridge over the river are picturesque places to visit. There are many lovely walks in the surrounding countryside.

 

Cirencester

 

Cirencester originally known as Corinium is the second largest Roman city in Britain, where you can experience the life as a Roman, dress as a Roman soldier and explore the historic scenes in the Corinium Museum which is found at the lower end of the town through the triumphal arch. The parish church is undergoing refurbishment but is still worth a visit with its magnificent stained glass windows. Behind the church is The Abbey grounds along side the river.

There are many independent shops tucked away down Black Jack Street, where you can also find the Butcher’s Jesse Smith, which has Royal approval. The Market Place, the Woolmarket, Castle Street and Stable Yard, all have many individual shops and coffee shops.

 

Close by is Cirencester open air swimming pool one of the oldest in Britain, open from May-September.
